Expert Tips - Grinding and Storing Coffee

Freshness

Freshness is imperative for the best coffee. Time is the greatest enemy of coffee once it comes out of the roaster. Our Master Roaster expertly roasts all his coffee blends in small batches to ensure that you only buy the freshest coffee beans possible. The beans upon leaving the roaster settle down and reach their full flavour about 24 hours after roasting and last at their peak for about 7 days thereafter. Most of our popular blends are roasted daily with no coffee being allowed to stand longer than 7 days at any one time. You can be assured that the coffee you buy is always at its flavour peak.

We employ Australia's most experienced coffee traders to search out the pick of the crop green coffee beans from the world over. We only buy the highest quality Arabica coffee beans regardless of price. On rare occasions we may be unable to supply a certain blend due to world shortages, we would prefer to do this than supply you with an inferior quality product as a substitute.

All Bay Coffee Roasters employees are personally trained by the master roaster to ensure that you receive knowledgeable service to match our coffee. Usually you will speak to the Master Roaster himself who can answer any query you may have about coffee, brewing techniques or equipment and he will gladly assist your with you coffee bean selection.

Grind

Grind your coffee beans to suit your brewing method.

As a guide we recommend (on a scale of 1-9):
- Turkish 1 (fine powder)
- Drip 3
- Espresso 4.5
- Plunger 8 (med-coarse)

Try and grind you coffee beans as close to the brewing time as possible. This will maximise the flavour and intensity of each cup.

We can grind your beans perfectly in the store using our professional Swiss Ditting grinder, the industry standard.

Storage

Storage of your coffee beans is essential to maintain peak flavour. Light and air are the two biggest enemies of the roasted coffee bean. Always store your beans or ground coffee in an airtight container away from UV light.
